This little village is situated on the south coast
near to Myrtos and Ierapetra, 85 km from Heraklion, on the shores of the
Libyan Sea. Local people from the neighbouring, traditional village of
Psari Forada, built summer houses here and used it as a base for fishing
and mooring their boats, thus forming a small community. The locals earn
their living mainly from agricultural produce, in particular bananas, so
therefore the area is relatively untouched by tourism.
Village life seems to centre around the open square
on the promenade, where a few shops, café-bars and tavernas can be found.
Many Greek people pass through to sample the excellent variety of fresh
fish. The tamarisk-shaded seafront hosts tavernas and café-bars where one
can enjoy beautiful views out to the sea. The quiet, laid back way of life
of the village is ideal for those visitors wishing to escape from the
bustle of daily life and also for keen walkers eager to explore the
wonderful countryside.
The Irida Studios are
right in the centre of the quaint little village of Sithonia by the
village square. The pretty studios are newly built and stand out from the
surrounding buildings on the little promenade next to the sand and pebble
beach.
The studios are tastefully decorated in pretty shades of blue
and have been carefully furnished in a modern style. The friendly owner
spends most weekends in his own private apartment at Irida Studios and the
rest of the building is divided into thirteen studios arranged on three
floors.
A taverna and café-bar is situated on the ground floor facing
the sea.
A: Studios (20sqm) ideal for 2-3 people, each comprising of a
kitchenette with a simple 2 ring cooker, double or twin beds with a sofa
bed, shower/WC and balcony with side or restricted sea views, or garden
views. The studios have been lovingly decorated and are also equipped with
central heating, air conditioning (extra local charge), TV and telephone.
B: Studios as described in type A but with sea views.
There is a
reception area on the ground floor and each of the two upper floors has a
comfortable sitting area with a small library. There is an enclosed garden
with a lawn and pretty flowers with a wooden pergola where guests can sit
and relax. At the side of the house there is a barbeque area with a
traditional oven.
Due to their central position, shops, tavernas, mini market and bus
stop can all be found nearby. A car is recommended.
