This 150 year old detached stone villa stands in 4000 sqm grounds surrounded by beautiful countryside in the tiny rural hamlet of Kastri, about 16 km from Panormo and 35 km from Rethymno. The old castle ruins of the original Venetian village of Kastri, and from which the village took its name, can still be seen on a nearby hillside. This warmly atmospheric and beautifully restored old country villa (120 sqm) with its wonderfully positioned private swimming pool, can accommodate between 8-10 people.

At the front of the house, there are charming stone split level sun terraces and an old stone oven which you can use to cook in, if you wish. Leading off a beautiful veranda, to the upper level of the villa is a living room with parquet flooring, wooden beamed ceilings, traditional old Cretan furniture, and two sofa beds. There is an old farmhouse style kitchen with dining table and a huge stone fireplace. Also on this floor there is a bedroom with a double bed and a shower/wc, and from the large outdoor veranda there are magnificent views overlooking the beautiful gardens and the nearby gorge.

On the ground floor there are 3 bedrooms, two with a double bed and a third with twin beds. The bedrooms, each unique in style, all have solid stone walls, some cut out of the rock, and all are handsomely furnished with old traditional wooden furniture. Many of the pretty windows of the villa have gorgeous hand-stitched antique cotton and lace curtains.

Further to this there is a shower/wc, and a utility room with a washing machine. The villa has a telephone, which has been set up for use with telephone cards.

In the gardens and offering superb views, there is a barbecue area beneath a pergola, furnished with wooden benches and a wooden table, perfect for dining alfresco.

The nearest shops can be found in the little mountain village of Agios Mamas, approx. 1,5 km away, and a bank, post office, cafes, shops and tavernas can be found about 10 km away in the bustling town of Perama. The nearest beaches are approx 20-25 minutes drive away. A car is essential.
